Its main hub is klia2, the low-cost carrier terminal at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) in Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia.

AirAsia's registered office is in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia while its head office is located near KLIA. All its Kuala Lumpur departures and arrivals operate through klia2.

Established in 2003 as a joint venture between Asia Aviation and AirAsia Investment, and was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in May 2012.
