A visa is not required to transit through Portugal providing that they do not
intend to leave the international transit area. To enter Portugal, you may need
a passport and/or a visa, depending on the country you live in. Citizens from
the European Community don’t need a Visa for entering Portugal. Portugal is also
a signatory to the 1995 Schengen Agreement.
Transit passengers continuing their journey by the same or first connecting
aircraft, provided holding onward or return documentation and not leaving the
airport. However, nationals of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Congo (Dom Rep),
Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal,
Somalia and Sri Lanka always require a transit visa, even when not leaving the
airport transit area.
