San Jacinto Monument

The San Jacinto Monument is a 570 foot (173.7 m) high column topped with a 220
ton star that commemorates the site of the Battle of San Jacinto, the decisive
battle of the Texas Revolution. It is the second tallest monument in the United
States.

and masonry tower, and is part of the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic
Site.
The column is an octagonal shaft faced with Texas Cordova shellstone, topped
with a 34 foot (10 m) Lone Star - the symbol of Texas.
It was designated an Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1992.

Getting There
To reach the San Jacinto Monument by public transportation, you can take the
METRO bus 246 Bay Area to San Jacinto College South. From there, transfer to the
Harris County Transit Route 505 to the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic
Site. Once you arrive at the park, you can take a shuttle to the San Jacinto
Monument.
Alternatively, you can take the METRO light rail to the Fannin South Transit
Center, then transfer to the Harris County Transit Route 249 and get off at the
San Jacinto Monument stop. From there, you can walk or take the shuttle to the
monument.
