San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site

This battlefield and its monument commemorate the Battle of San Jacinto where
the Republic of Texas won its independence from Mexico on April 21, 1836.
The San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site commemorates the Battle of San
Jacinto, fought on April 21, 1836. The battle was the decisive battle of the
Texas Revolution where troops headed by Sam Houston defeated Santa Anna and the
Mexican Army.
An annual San Jacinto Day festival and battle reenactment is held in the month
of April at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site.
The site includes the San Jacinto Monument, the world's tallest memorial column.
San Jacinto is the Spanish name for Saint Hyacinth, a 12th century Dominican
missionary who spread Christianity through northern Europe. The Battle of San
Jacinto takes its name from its location near the San Jacinto River.

Getting There
San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site can be reached by public
transportation via the Houston Metro bus system. The 50 Broadway bus route
travels from downtown Houston to the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic
Site, with a stop at the monument.
Alternatively, visitors can take the METRORail to the San Jacinto station and
then take a taxi or ride-sharing service to the battleground. It is also
possible to drive to the site and park in the on-site parking lot.
