The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts was founded in 1805 by painter and scientist Charles Willson Peale, sculptor William Rush, and other artists and business leaders. It is the oldest art museum and school in the nation.

The current museum building opened in 1876 and was designed by Frank Furness and George W. Hewitt.

The Academy is considered one of the finest surviving examples of Victorian Gothic architecture in America.

The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is located at 128 North Broad Street in Philadelphia. You can reach it by taking the Broad Street Line subway to the Race-Vine Station, which is located just a few blocks from the museum.
