Gettysburg Battlefield

The Gettysburg Battlefield was the site of the Battle of Gettysburg, fought July
1 to July 3, 1863, in and around the borough of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the
county seat of Adams County, which had approximately 2,400 residents at the
time.
The battlefield is now the site of two historic landmarks: Gettysburg National
Military Park and the Gettysburg National Cemetery.
Not long after the battle, Pennsylvania Governor Andrew Curtin visited
Gettysburg and attorney David Wills arranged for the purchase of 17 acres (0.069
km2) of Cemetery Hill battlefield land for a cemetery.
