The Awbury Arboretum was established in 1916 by the family of Henry Cope, a Quaker shipping merchant. The grounds were partially designed by William Saunders, designer of the Cemetery at the Gettysburg Battlefield and of the U.S. Capitol grounds.

Getting There

To get to the Awbury Arboretum by public transportation, you can take the SEPTA Regional Rail Chestnut Hill East Line to the Washington Lane Station. From there, you can take the SEPTA Bus Route 26 towards Frankford Transportation Center and get off at the Chew Avenue and Washington Lane stop. The arboretum is a short walk from there.
