The Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad is a heritage railway that offers public excursion train rides May through October. The depot is located in the Historic 1887 Rock Island Depot, Old Abilene Town, south of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library

The train travels along an old Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad line that used to run from Herington to Salina. Currently it operates on approximately 5.5 miles (8.9 km) of trackage between Abilene and Enterprise.

At Enterprise passengers are allowed to explore the caboose and locomotive. Seating in the diner or in open-sided gondola cars is available.

Getting There

If you are driving, you can take I-70 to exit 275, and then follow the signs to Abilene. Once you are in Abilene, the railroad is located near the intersection of 5th Street and Buckeye Avenue.

If you are traveling by public transportation, unfortunately there is no direct public transportation to Abilene. However, you could take a Greyhound bus to Salina, Kansas, which is about 25 miles east of Abilene, and then arrange for a taxi or rental car to get to Abilene.
