Created by Presidential proclamation on January 11, 2000, the 71,100 acre (288 km2) monument has over 450 distinct Native American structures, some of large pueblos containing more than 100 rooms each.

Getting There

Agua Fria National Monument is located in central Arizona, approximately 40 miles north of Phoenix. Here are some ways to get there:

By car: The monument is accessible via Interstate 17. From Phoenix, take I-17 North to the Bloody Basin Road exit (Exit 259). Turn left onto Forest Road 269 and continue for about 10 miles until you reach the monument.

By public transportation: There is no public transportation directly to the monument, but visitors can take a Greyhound bus to Phoenix and then rent a car or take a guided tour.

By guided tour: Several tour companies offer guided tours of the monument, including transportation from Phoenix or other nearby cities.

By private charter: Visitors can also charter a private plane or helicopter to the nearby Cordes Airport, which is about a 30-minute drive from the monument.

The nearest major airport to Agua Fria National Monument is Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), which is about 45 miles south of the monument.
