Cheaha Mountain (Mount Cheaha)
At 2,407 feet (734 m) above sea level, Cheaha Mountain is the highest point in
the state of Alabama. The mountain was opened to the public as a state park on
June 7, 1939.

The highest point is marked with a USGS marker in front of Bunker Tower, a stone
Civilian Conservation Corps building with an observation deck on top.
Cheaha Mountain is part of the Talladega Mountains, a final southern segment of
the Blue Ridge. The mountain was opened to the public as a state park on June 7,
1939.

Getting There
Cheaha Mountain, also known as Mount Cheaha, is located in the northeastern part
of Alabama, approximately 25 miles southeast of Anniston. Here are some ways to
get there:
By Car: You can drive to the mountain by taking I-20 E to exit 191 for AL-1
S/US-431 S toward Anniston/Oxford. Follow AL-1 S/US-431 S for approximately 19
miles and then turn right onto AL-281 S towards Cheaha State Park. Follow the
signs to the park entrance.
By Public Transportation: There is no direct public transportation to Cheaha
Mountain. The closest bus and train stations are in Anniston, and from there,
you would need to rent a car or take a taxi to get to the mountain.
By Taxi or Rideshare: You can take a taxi or rideshare service such as Uber or
Lyft to Cheaha Mountain. However, please note that the area around the mountain
is rural and may not have reliable cell service for rideshare pickups.
The closest airport to Cheaha Mountain in Alabama is the
Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), which is approximately
90 miles away.
Once you arrive at Cheaha State Park, there is a park entrance fee. You can
drive to the top of the mountain, where there is a parking lot and observation
