Mount Bromo
Mount Bromo, locally known as Kawah Bromo, is one of the most renowned tourist
destinations on the island of Java in Indonesia. As the highest peak on the
island and the world's most active volcano, Mount Bromo attracts visitors from
around the globe.
What sets Mount Bromo apart is its accessibility. Despite being an active
volcano, reaching its crater is relatively easy. Situated within the Tengger
Caldera, Mount Bromo rises from the base of a larger volcano, Mount Tengger,
creating a stunning landscape. To reach the crater, visitors must traverse the
Sea of Sands (Lautan Pasir), adding to the adventure of the journey.
Visitors have the option to hire ponies to take them to the staircase leading to
the crater's edge, where they can witness the breathtaking sight of Mount Bromo.
The crater, which experienced a major eruption years ago, emits sulfuric smoke
from its opening, creating a mesmerizing scene. Mount Bromo is particularly
famous for its spectacular sunrises, offering a truly unforgettable experience
for visitors.
One of the notable events at Mount Bromo is the Kasada festival, typically held
in March (though sometimes in February), which is a significant religious
celebration in the region.
The journey to Mount Bromo is an adventure in itself, making it a must-visit
destination for adventure enthusiasts. For travelers arriving by air, Surabaya's
Juanda International Airport is the closest airport to Mount Bromo, located
approximately 79 km away. From there, visitors can charter a 4x4 vehicle or jeep
from Probolinggo or Malang to reach Mount Bromo and embark on an unforgettable
experience amidst the stunning landscapes of Java.
