Airports Worldwide

Every airport are uniquely represented by its IATA airport code and ICAO airport code.

Most of airport names take the location as its name. Some airport names honor public figure, commonly a statesman (e.g. Indira Gandhi International Airport), a celebrity such as in Liverpool John Lennon Airport or prominent figure in aviation history of the region (e.g. Will Rogers World Airport).

There are airports with unofficial names, possibly so widely circulated that its official name is little used or even known. Some airport names include the word 'International' to indicate their ability to handle international flights. However, some airport names without the word "international" but their airport facilities are far beyond international standard.

Most of the world's airports are owned by national government bodies or local authority.
