Asmara International Airport

Asmara International Airport (ASM) is the primary airport serving Asmara, the
capital of Eritrea. Located about 4 km from the city center, it is a small but
functional airport catering mainly to regional and international flights. The
airport has a single terminal that handles both domestic and international
operations.
Facilities
While modest, the airport offers essential services such as check-in counters,
immigration and customs facilities, basic seating areas, a duty-free shop, a
small café, and currency exchange. There are limited amenities, so passengers
are advised to make necessary preparations before arrival or departure.
Airlines and Destinations
Asmara International Airport is served by a handful of airlines. As of recent
years, these include
Turkish Airlines, FlyDubai, and EgyptAir, offering flights to destinations
like Istanbul, Dubai, and Cairo. Eritrean Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines have
also historically operated routes to and from ASM, though schedules can vary.
Public Transportation
Public transportation options are limited. Taxis are the most common way to
travel between the airport and the city, and fares should be agreed upon in
advance. There is no formal bus or train service from the terminal. Many hotels
offer shuttle pickups if arranged ahead of time.
Despite its size, ASM remains Eritrea's main international gateway.
